Vladimir Dracula and Zoltan, Faustian Slip

Zoltan is the stuffed Hellhound and faithful companion of Vladimir Dracula. He has appeared in all but two episodes (Camping and Sweet Sixteen) and was in the very first episode, When You're a Stranger. He is voiced by Andy Bradshaw. Zoltan doesn't appear at all in series 4 & 5.

Personality[]

Speaking with a Russian accent, he is rather sarcastic, encourages vampirism and is always against Vlad's plans to act more like a "breather". Although he frequently gives advice, sometimes good, to both Robin and Vlad, his advice is not always heeded.

Relationships[]

Although the Count tolerates Zoltan, he is occasionally violent towards him. Both the Count and Ivan used to throw Zoltan off the battlements of the castle.

Series 1 & 2[]

Despite his status as a taxidermy victim, Zoltan gets around the castle very well on his wheels. In the episode Blood Relations, Zoltan ends up falling off the side of the castle and onto Mr. Van Helsing's car and is then fitted with a camera and a receiver which allows Eric the ability to control Zoltan using a remote control.

Series 3[]

In series 3 Zoltan remains the faithful companion of Vladimir Dracula. Once again his helpful advice is not often heeded. In "Bad Vlad" Vlad twists Zoltan's neck all the way round, leaving him stuck. Despite this Zoltan remains loyal to his master, telling Erin that she must help Vlad before he loses himself to his evil reflection.

Early Life[]

Little is known about Zoltan during the time before he was stuffed. However, it is known that Ivan Dracula had a habit of throwing him off the castle battlements, which may have been the cause of his death. It is also known that he was a reluctant member of the pack of 'hellhounds' that savaged Renfield Sr. to death - he regrets this immensely.

Trivia[]

  • Zoltan himself is a reference to the 1978 film Zoltan: Hound of Dracula which is about a dog that becomes possessed by the spirit of Dracula.
  • The name 'Zoltan' is of Hungarian origin.
  • Zoltan reveals in Halloscream that The Count has banned him from saying the words 'garlic', 'stakes' and 'sunlight' and so he instead refers to them as 'golf balls', 'sausages' and 'bun-fight' respectively.
